The Jericho School
For Children with Autism and other Developmental Disabilities
F A Q s:
What makes your school so unique?
Our ability to provide an individualized science based curriculum for each child is what makes The Jericho School so unique. The instruction is intensive ABA teaching. Most students receive one-to-one instruction for the majority of the day. All of the instruction is based on the science of Applied Behavior Analysis and B.F. Skinner's analysis of Verbal Behavior.
Is the instruction one-to-one intensive ABA therapy all day long?
A great deal of what we do is ABA therapy but we also recognize the importance of generalization, socialization, normalization, Natural Environment Training (NET), and play skills. We have a combination of one-to-one training, small group, NET, peer interaction and appropriate play time.
Is the school just for children with autism?
No specific diagnosis is required for a child to be enrolled in our school or Communication Clinic. Students with a variety of developmental disabilities attend The Jericho School. The label is really not as imperative to us as the individual needs of each child.
Do you include speech and occupational therapy in your curriculum?
A great deal of our therapy works on articulation and shaping vocal behaviors through successive approximations. We also work on large motor, fine motor, handwriting and other skills depending upon the students needs. However, we do not have Speech or Occupational Therapist on staff.
